George Malevris

George's story began in Zimbabwe, where he left school with one thing on his mind: cars.

His brother was a mechanic, and George saw a path he could follow. At that stage, the attraction was simple — he wanted to leave school, get into the motor industry, and test drive cars. What he discovered very quickly was that being a mechanic was not just about cars. It was hard, physical work that demanded discipline, patience, and skill.

George attended Bulawayo Technical College in Zimbabwe, where he studied motor mechanics while completing practical training in between. He then completed a two-year apprenticeship and qualified as a mechanic.

In his twenties, George moved to South Africa and worked at a Nissan dealership, Datsun Blackheath. He enjoyed the technical side of the work, especially overhauling engines, but his career soon began to expand beyond the workshop floor.

He later moved into the hardware industry, where he became a hardware manager and then a buyer. After a short period in that field, he returned to the motor industry and joined Darrenwood Toyota. Determined to stay current, he enrolled in several courses to update and sharpen his skills as vehicle technology advanced.

George became a workshop foreman and earned the nickname "George Foreman" because he was the person people turned to when there was a difficult problem to solve. He specialised in sorting out complex vehicle issues, learned fuel injection systems, and made it his priority to keep up with every major development entering the motor industry.

By 1994, George was ready to build something of his own. Tired of making money for other people, he rented a workshop at the Zenex Garage on D. F. Malan Drive and opened his own business.

That decision became the foundation of Northwold Auto Repair.

For George, the business was never only about fixing cars. It was about solving problems properly, earning trust, and giving customers the kind of workmanship he believed in. His years of dealership experience, hands-on mechanical training, and practical problem-solving shaped the way he ran his workshop.

Northwold Auto Repair grew from that foundation: technical knowledge, honest workmanship, and a commitment to keeping people safely on the road at affordable prices.
